Noctua ‘s NH-L9a-AM4 is the latest version of Noctua’s acclaimed NH-L9a low-profile CPU cooling fan. This is the version specifically designed for SFF (Small Form Factor) or HTPC configurations with AMD Ryzen. With a height of just 37mm, the NH-L9a is ideal for cases with a very low height, as its reduced dimensions ensure perfect compatibility with both RAM modules and PCIe slots, and leave easy access to the connections around the socket, even on compact mini-ITX motherboards. The SecuFirm2 mounting system, specifically designed for the AM4 socket, makes installation a breeze. The high-tech NF-A9x14 92mm fan, whose speed can be fully automated via PWM, also ensures that the NH-L9a-AM4 runs surprisingly quietly.

The original NH-L9a, designed for the AM2(+), AM3(+), FM1 and FM2(+) , has received over 50 awards and recommendations from the international press and specialist websites. The new version for AM4 builds on the same advanced technological features that have made it such a success, to ensure the ultimate level of performance for Ryzen CPUs and APUs in a compact design.
With a slim 23mm heatsink combined with the NF-A9x14 space-saving fan, which is just 14mm thick, the NF-A9x14 offers an overall height of just 37mm, making it ideal for HTPCs and Small Form Factor cases that leave little space available for the CPU’s ventirad.
The small footprint of the NH-L9a-AM4 perfectly meets AMD ‘s requirements in terms of space occupancy (keep-out zone). This means that neither the cooler nor the fan encroaches on the slots dedicated to RAM modules, ensuring compatibility with high memory modules.
Reliability, efficiency and silence
Some AMD mini-ITX motherboards have a PCIe slot close to the area dedicated to the CPU socket. While larger fans that overhang this critical area prevent the PCIe slot from being used, the compact size of the NH-L9a-AM4 ensures total compatibility with PCIe cards.
For performance reasons, many low-profile fans are fitted with larger fans or heatsinks, which encroach on the socket area. This makes it difficult, if not impossible, to access the connectors surrounding the socket on crowded ITX motherboards. Thanks to its compact size, the NH-L9a-AM4 allows free access to connectors and other surrounding components.
The NF-A9x14 fan is a highly optimised premium model with an exclusive Noctua AAO frame and an advanced design offering exceptional aerodynamic performance. The NF-A9x14 is PWM-compatible, so its speed can be fully automated, enabling the NH-L9a-AM4 to remain surprisingly quiet.
By offering the option of reducing the ceiling speed of the NF-A9x14 PWM (1800 rpm instead of 2500 rpm), the Low Noise Adapter (L.N.A.) supplied enables virtually inaudible configurations to be obtained with CPUs having a TDP of less than 65W.
