This 8-port SATA III (6 Gbps) controller card, designed by StarTech.com, allows you to add eight SATA 6 Gbps hard drives or SSDs to your computer system or server from anavailable PCIe x4 card slot. The card supports both SATA III and PCI Express Gen 2 specifications, as well as four SATA controllers, providing a high-performance data storage solution.
Featuring four 2-port SATA 6 controllers and a PCIe x4 MUX, this SATA card connects eight high-performance SATA 6 Gbps drives for a maximum combined throughput of 20 Gbps. The SATA drives are connected to two Mini-SAS ports with two Mini-SAS to 4x SATA adapter cables included. To ensure a secure connection, each SATA port on the supplied cables has a locking connector that prevents accidental disconnection of the drive during any work inside your computer case.
The MUX PCIe built into this controller card manages downstream controllers, which improves motherboard compatibility by ensuring the card is compatible with motherboards that support bifurcation and those that do not. To further enhance motherboard compatibility, the board has no built-in RAID controller, but fully supports the use of software RAID. In addition, with support for PCIe Gen 2 and SATA III specifications, this card provides backward compatibility with previous generations (SATA I/II, PCIe Gen 1) that have lower performance. Finally, this controller card has broad support on all popular operating system platforms, including Windows (7, 8, 10, 11), MacOS (10.10-11) and Linux (2.6.32 and later).
